If you love blues rock music, you probably know who Popa Chubby is. He is one of the most prolific and talented blues guitarists of our time, and he has a lot of stories to tell through his songs. In this blog post, I want to share with you some facts about Popa Chubby and his song “Working Class Blues”, which is one of my favorites.
Popa Chubby was born as Theodore Joseph Horowitz in The Bronx, New York City, in 1960. He grew up in a tough neighborhood, where he learned to play guitar and to survive. He was influenced by the music of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and the Rolling Stones, among others. He started his musical career in 1987, playing in various bands and clubs in New York. He soon developed his own style of blues rock, combining powerful riffs, soulful vocals, and fiery solos.
He has released more than 30 albums since then, and he is still going strong. His latest album, “It’s A Mighty Hard Road”, came out in 2020, and it features some of his best songs yet. He has also toured extensively around the world, playing in festivals and venues with other great artists. He has a loyal fan base that appreciates his authentic and passionate music.
One of the songs that showcases Popa Chubby’s talent and vision is “Working Class Blues”. It is from his 2014 album “I’m Feelin’ Lucky”, which was recorded live in the studio with his band. The song is a tribute to the working class people of America, who face many challenges and hardships, but also have dreams and hopes for a better future. The song has a catchy groove and a catchy chorus that goes like this:
“I’m working hard every day
Trying to make my way
I got the working class blues
But I ain’t gonna lose”
The song also features some amazing keyboard work by Dave Keyes, who adds a touch of soul and funk to the track. Popa Chubby delivers a stunning vocal performance, full of emotion and grit. He also plays some incredible guitar solos that will make you want to grab your guitar and jam along.
Popa Chubby is not only a great musician, but also a great storyteller. He has a lot of stories to tell, and he tells them with his music. His nickname comes from a funny episode that happened when he was jamming with Bernie Worrell, a legendary keyboardist from Parliament-Funkadelic. Worrell was singing a song with the lyrics “Popa Chubby, Popa Chubby” and Horowitz liked the name and decided to use it as his stage name. The name also reflects his burly physique and the stoner culture of the 1970s.
Popa Chubby is a blues rock legend that you should not miss. His music is full of passion, power, and soul. His song “Working Class Blues” is a perfect example of his artistry and message. If you like blues rock music, you will love Popa Chubby.
