The Derek Trucks Band – Crow Jane
Great Skip James tune. Derek Trucks does it just as good! This groove hits you like a wave. If this doesn’t make you move, I don’t know what to say. Amazing concert, amazing musicians, righteous jams.
Nice version. The singing captures some of the “hair-raising falsetto” of Skip James’s original and the guitar is very respectful to the song as well, not turning it into a riff-slanging piece, but for the most part, just supporting the vocal, and providing bridges between verses.
The guitar is actually more restrained than you would think, watching the video, because the production highlights it much more than what the band is actually playing. Well, it is the Trucks band. This is one tight band! And they’re doing a great job at covering the best song ever written.
