You get tube-driven/tank reverb and tube-driven tremolo. No wimpy digital reverb, but the real deal. The controls are as basic as you can get (treble, middle, bass plus basic controls for the reverb and tremolo), but they are sensitive. A little adjustment up or down makes a huge difference.
The amp itself is also touch-sensitive to the dynamics of your playing. On the downside, you can’t hide your mistakes. An amp like this will make you a better player out of necessity.
This amp does not have built-in distortion; it’s not meant for metal right out of the box. If you want a lot of over-drive, use pedals. The bottom line is that the ’65 Twin Reissue loves effects, you will need some sort of overdrive or distortion effect to get those overdriven sounds. This amp just won’t break-up naturally. You can add your favorite pedals if you enjoy that, it compliments everything. If you’re looking for an amp that let’s you hear what your guitar and effects are suppose to sound like, then this is the amp you should try.

Fender Vintage Reissue ’65 Twin Reverb is heavy as a boat anchor and may justify a gym membership to just lug it around. But the tone of your guitar going through it is worth every pound it weighs.
You might be worried that Twin Reverb is too loud, but you can get good tones out even at 1.5-2 volume settings. You can play in small flat with your children sleeping next room and you disturb no one.
If you like to play blues, you can get your BB King moment with this amp. If you want to hear what your guitar has to give, and hear what the gold standard is for a electric guitar amp, this is it.
