Stevie Ray Vaughan
Stevie Ray Vaughan has been in the Blues Hall of Fame since 2000, alongside such stars as Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King and Albert Collins – so he was among the artists he admired and where he grew up. But the fact that Stevie was big did not make learning the play, stylistically copying or imitating masters. Even if he drew from Hubert Sumlin or Kenny Burrell, he respected the musicians so much that he did not allow himself to make a mindless copy of the style of their game. Vaughan was able to penetrate the spirit of their music and then enrich his own style. This extraordinary skill was much more important than the technical aspects of the game itself. Even the devious Stratocaster, a beautifully modeled sunburst, was not the most important.
